Keeffe (b. 1975) In 2004 O’ Keeffe received an MA in Fine Art Virtual Realties, She has shown in Sweden, London, China and Canada and Ireland. Her work is predominantly sound art placed within the context of virtual spaces, O’ Keeffe looks to recreate the physical memory of experience of place and time through sound. O’ Keeffe was commissioned this year to create sound and music for the Dance Theatre Of Ireland for a performance, Watermark, which toured around Ireland in October. Her sound has been published to CD for the Deepwireless festival in Toronto and she is a freelance writer for Musicworks magazine in Toronto. In June 2006 she will start a residency in the CAMAC centre for art for three months. There she hopes to work with scientists and technologists to build work based on dead and new languages. At an early age, he became interested in the worlds of both music and visual art. He developed his primary medium, collage, via pieces which combined found photographs with his own drawings, and prerecorded LPs with loops and live instruments. In the 1990s, Novak performed and exhibited his work throughout the vibrant Madison café art scene. In 2000, Novak moved to Seattle and refined his methods, trading in turntables and vinyl records for a Mini Disc recorder and a laptop, in order to achieve a more in-depth style of production. Novak has released set of 5 limited edition 3-inch CDs “Three Inches for Friends”. In addition, he has produced two film soundtracks, for “Leaning” (which he also produced), and “Neptune” (produced by Brian Murphy). Both movies premiered at the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, in 2003 and 2004, respectively. He was recently included on the compilation “People Doing Strange Things With Electricity” curated by Dorkbot-sea and released by Comfort Stand Records, and was Commissioned by the Crispen Spaeth Dance Group to score there full length piece “Fade”. Novak’s work has withstood a series of changes in method while always retaining and refining the strengths of his unique aesthetic, exploring the overlap and intersection between presence and absence, art and design, sound and music. Dave uses video and sonic material, often arising from laborious search or unstable technical methods, to devise encounters between media apparatus and the inscription of accidental, surplus or abandoned codes. Dave exhibits in a variety of festival programmes, galleries, microcinemas and artist-run spaces. He graduated from the MA Media Art programme at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2004. Along with Nick Jordan , in 2003 he curated and published the Codec/x DVD of video & sonic collaborations from Manchester that toured internationally. In 2004 Dave helped to develop the Purescreen artist's video screenings & publications for Castlefield Gallery, Manchester.
