[post_title] => His Masters Voices
[post_excerpt] => Janek was born in England to Polish and Canadian parents in 1970. While studying architecture at the Royal College of Art [RCA annual prize], he recorded the fragmented noises of a sound activated dictaphone travelling overnight through the Post Office. That work, titled 'Recorded Delivery' [1995] was made for the 'Self Storage' exhibition [Time Out critics choice] with one time postman Brian Eno and Artangel. Since then the multiple aspects of sound became his focus, resulting in many releases, installations, soundtracks for exhibitions, and concerts using his self built/invented record players with electroacoutisc collage. The 'Tri-phonic Turntable' [1997] is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the 'World's Most Versatile Record Player'. He has performed, lectured and exhibited widely throughout Europe [Sonar, Tate Modern, ICA], USA/Canada, [The Walker, XI, Mutek, Princeton], Japan, and Australia [Sydney Opera House]. The context of each idea is central to its development and resolution. His concerts and installations explore the spatial and architectural aspect that sound can evoke and the twisting of technology. Hybrid analogue and digital techniques are used to manipulate field recordings with live modified vinyl and found sound to create evocative and involving environments. His CD 'Above Buildings' [2000] was released on Fat Cat to considerable praise, [The Guardian CD of the week]. He plays in a duo with Philip Jeck ['Songs for Europe' CD] and formed 'Comae' the improvisational electroacoustic duo with Robert Hampson [Main] in 1999. Janek runs his own label [audiOh!Recordings] and web site [audiOh.com] as well as releasing work with Asphodel, Sub Rosa, Staalplaat, Hot Air, Sirr, Rhiz, Alluvial, DSP and Diskono. He currently works as a full time sound artist/sound designer/musician/visiting lecturer and composer from the audiOh! Room in London.

judsoN is a computer artist, with software featured internationally in theaters, galleries and on the web for over a decade now. Recently, his interests have become more academic. He's had several papers published, primarily on issues of Cognitive Science and music. "He makes Behavioral Art, art that requires live engagement and is programmed for a playful experience". The best method for creating these systems is interactivity. The best method for creating advanced interactivity is with code. And the best tool for executing custom code efficiently, by far, is the computer. So that's what he makes - Computer Art. In 1992, he graduated from Brown University majoring in Visual Art. As an undergrad, he took classes at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), studied music under a former student of Stockhausen, studied acting, the history of the circus, and created some music for the Computer Science people there. In about 1995, he started poking the buttons on computers. In 1996, he programmed interactive artwork with one of the first online galleries, Ädaweb and later with the MoMA's web art collection. In 2007, judsoN completed a Faculty Fellowship at ITP (Interactive Telecommunications [MPA] Program) at New York University/Tisch. There, he wrote his thesis on neurology, shamanism, psychoacoustics and the effects of sensory stimuli on brain waves.
judsoN has always created works for performance, installation and web (since the mid-90's), often employing music, always integrating several artistic and technical disciplines. But here are some general trends. His installation works have appeared at
the Armory Show (New York), the 809 Art District (China), , the
Kennedy Center (Washington DC), Hipersonica (Brazil), the Chang Mai ICECA Museum of Art (Thailand), for
the Arts Council of Mildura Australia and
Smithsonian International Gallery (Washington DC). In recent years, he has focused more on music, which has been performed at
IMEB (l'Institut International de Musique Electroacoustique de Bourges), at the 809 Art District (China), with the
Brooklyn Philharmonic and composer
Eve Beglarian at the
Brooklyn Museum, and the
Planetario (Rome). Papers, interviews, books and articles mentioning his work, he wrote a chapter in
The Handbook on Computational Arts and Creative Informatics, presented at
ICMC (the International Computer Music Conference, on a panel called 'Language, Neurology and Acoustics'), LISA (Leaders in Software Art), and has an essay in a time capsule for the National Library of Spain. His work has been featured on stages, under
circus tents (the Czech Republic and Poland), the
Public Theater and
St. Ann's with avant garde theatrical legends
Mabou Mines,
the Kitchen with multi-cultural group Shadow Casters (in New York), and at the
Judson Church (quite an honor!). Net art pieces include work a survey of 9 internet artists at DC's Union Station,
ISCAM (Istanbul Contemprary Art Museum), the
Liverpool Biennial (part of "The Cyber Kitchen" and "Violence Memorial"),
Turbulence (part of "Iconography"), as the (web celeb) guest "reBlogger" at
Eyebeam. Fellowships and residencies include the
MacDowell Colony and
Yaddo for art, for dance with the
Field in the Chelsea art district (New York), and choreography under
Doug Elkins at
Atlantic Center for the Arts.
