Sainte-Thérèse and pursued studies in art history at Université de Montréal. By the late 1970s, he emerged as one of the most important multidisciplinary artists of his generation in Canada. A musician, writer, visual artist and performer, he developed an approach rooted in the incessant search for liberating modes of creation and expression. In 1979, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal presented his installation and performance entitled “Décomprendre le sourire d’une perle.” Since the late 1970s, the artist has shown his work in Canada, the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia in some of the most important events of the contemporary scene, including the Venice Biennale (1990) and Documenta, in Kassel (1992). A major retrospective of his work was organized by the National Gallery of Canada in 2001. In 1999, he won the Prix Ozias-Leduc and the Prix Louis-Comtois. He also received the prestigious Prix Paul-Émile Borduas in 2007. This happened when the city of Frankfurt, in charge of an investment company and intending to raise the acceptance of a deserted industrial complex, planned to perform a vernissage in this place. Therefore they needed an artist and an artwork. When I was asked, I thought that it would be apt to the situation to leave the huge space empty of artworks and instead attach a computer-generated clapper to each of the 1400 windows to transform the space into a poly-rhythm box. I liked the plan, but the investors didn't. Nevertheless I pursued the idea to activate the resonance frequencies of given objects in a space in order to arrive at site- and space-specific compositions which would change with every place and given situation.

To broadcast CD's Radio X in Frankfurt uses Denon DN C680. The players (3 of them in total) can be operated at the same time and are equipped with scan/search data-wheels that allows one to start or stop a CD at any given point. Moved while playing a CD the wheels send the disc into a locked groove, which can be shifted by constantly turning the wheel (about 60 shifts will scan one second of playing time). For the March edition of monthly Selektion broadcast Wollscheid scanned and shifted sections of 'A Young Person's Guide to Phill Niblock' (Blast First), 'Construction' by John Hudak from 'The Site of Sound' (errant bodies), 'Kern' by Frank Bretschneider from 'Clicks & Cuts' (Mille Plateaux), 'This Piano Thing', by Gordon Monahan (Swerve Edition) , 'Pure Gaze' by Olivia Block (Sedimental) and 'White Winged Moth/Ribbon Arcade' by Dean Roberts (Formacentric). The impetus behind this work is to discover and use the broadcast medium as an 'instrument' - instrument not in the sense of a 'tool' (although this side always plays a role), but rather as a set of transformative possibilities, which can help to re-read the information available.

The starting point for our artistic work is the notion, that movement and sound are identical; without movement (vibration) nothing can be heard. This idea is worked out by us in every thinkable form: installations, works in progress on location, performances, concerts, etc. Because of the temporary character of the media sound and movement, our works, up to now, have always been presented during a limited period of time. So there are no objects for sale. Besides using the media movement, sound and image, we also have an interest in using new media and technology, that are often realized especially for our projects.
