As part of the European project SWICH – Sharing a World of Inclusion, Creativity and
Heritage (2015-2018), the Museum of Civilizations invited H.H. Lim to take part in the artist
residency programme “Outside In – Illuminating Guests” (2016-2017). During the residency,
H.H. Lim researched the Asian collections of the Museum of Civilizations – “L. Pigorini”
Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography, with particular attention to the objects originating
from Indonesia and Malaysia, interacting with the curators and staff of the museum on the theme: “The Making of a Point of View”.
The artist and the curators of the museum were involved in a series of exchanges and
reflections on the construction of alternative and experimental ways of interpreting and
exhibiting the ethnographic objects, a long process of dialogue that went through various
phases, from the study of the collections to the conception of the final exhibition.
Thanks to this process, the previously un-exhibited collections of the museum were
reinterpreted, innovating museum procedures with new languages and experiences.
