ART AND FOOTBALL FOR WORLD PEACE

With Love Difference&Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto the game becomes an occasion to get together and reflect on the fascinating complexity of the diverse culture of the Mediterranean area.

The table football playing field is a mirror in the shape of the Mediterranean Sea. The players wear shirts, every one different, representing each of the national teams of the countries around the Mediterranean.

In the arenas of Ancient Rome competitions were held as bloody rituals. In modern-day arenas football has transformed the competition into an event of reciprocal respect. Today football, together with art, bequeaths to the Stadium the value of a place for spreading a new model of cultural and civil integration.

August 28^th at 20:45 at the Olympic Stadium, Rome the 2010/2011 season will kick off with Roma vs. Cesena. Before the game there will be a performance of LOVE DIFFERENCE by Michelangelo Pistoletto.

After the FIFA World Cup 2010 anthem Wavin’ Flag by K’naan, the performance will involve the unveiling of a painted 35 x 20 canvas depicting the Mediterranean Sea. Over the shape of Italy the LOVE DIFFERENCE table will be placed, around which a symbolic game will be played by several personalities from the worlds of Art, Culture and Sport.

The commentary of the match will be given in Italian by Bruno Pizzul and shown on the big screens of the stadium.

The event will be broadcast on http://live.radioartemobile.it in Arabic by the egyptian journalist Nagy Rizk and will be programmed on RAM’ s web radio, olso in Italian.

The Love Difference Table Football is the brainchild of Michelangelo Pistoletto, Golden Lion winner at the Venice Biennale, and of artist and designer Diego Paccagnella, in support of the activities of Love Difference – Artistic Movement for Inter-Mediterranean Politics.
